Change of DNS System to IP Control successfully finished

On June 24, 2025, the migration of the previous online DNS interface to the IP Control product from Cygna Labs was successfully completed. This marks the end of a multi-year conversion phase of the DNS system at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The new system offers easier maintenance and better mapping of networks and zones.

A DNS system translates domain names such as “www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de” into numerical IP addresses so that computers can access websites and other internet resources. Without DNS, users would have to memorize complicated IP addresses of all websites in order to navigate the internet.
